Shibori Kimono Jackets for Autumn

Autum is here! 🍁

It's a perfect time to wear a light jacket. And shibori silk kimono jacket might be the right choice. The silk is thick enough to keep you warm, but not too thick that you'd feel hot in this season. Shibori makes some of the most gorgeous textile patterns that these kimono jackets don't look ordinary. For those who are into Japanese outfit and boho style, these jackets are for them.

These are the shibori silk kimono jackets (or called haori) available in my Jagatara Art Vintage & Supplies shop

Burgundy shibori silk kimono jacket with abstract design.

Another burgundy shibori silk kimono jacket. It has unique abstract design.

Red shibori silk kimono jacket with leaf design. One of my favorites! The leaf design on the back is really gorgeous!

Ombre red shibori silk kimono jacket with elaborate leaf design. Perfect for the season!

Orange shibori silk kimono jacket. Just the right color for the season.

Yellow shibori silk kimono jacket. This is a quite rare shibori kimono jacket. Yellow shibori silk jacket is a rare item. Couldn't be more perfect for the season. I love the ombre colors on this jacket.

Kimono jacket or haori is basically unisex jacket. So these jackets can be worn by both men and women depending on the size. Authentic kimono jackets don't fall into strict categories of size such as S. M, or L since they are vintage items, each jacket was custom made following the size of their previous owners. Please find the details of their sizes in my shop.

Shipping worldwide by Standard Airmail Japan Post costs $5 (no tracking number). Add $4 to get a Registered mail and add $11 to get an Expedited shipping.

Have a lovely autumn! 🍁

Kimono Silk Fabric Remnants with Scenic Motif

It's been ages since my last post. I've been so busy. Running two shops is certainly a full time job!

To begin with, I've added a new section in my Vintage & Supplies shop JagataraArtVintSup. It's fabric remnant section. It started when I realized that I had so many fabric scraps that I'd bought and used only some of them to make kanzashi. Mainly kimono silk fabrics. These fabrics were part of kimono and haori.r

Japan's silk is well-known of its high quality. The patterns are beautiful and unique. Many have traditional Japanese textile designs such as seigaiha (wave), sakura (cherry blossoms), ume (plum blossoms), momiji leaf, and many more.

One of my favourite designs is scenic design which depicts nature and even houses. Sometimes the design includes several traditional designs such as sakura, bamboo leaves, pine etc.

These are some of the fabrics in my shop.

This one has unique scenic motif which consists of traditional Japanese patterns such as streams, chrysanthemums, irises, cherry blossoms, and pines. Also there are additional patterns such as hills and bamboo water pipes.

I love the striking colours of this piece. The design depicts Japanese village. There are colourful houses with lots of trees and flowers. You may notice some Japanese traditional designs such as seigaiha (wave), chrysanthemums, irises, momiji leaves and many others.

Although the scenic design on this fabric is quite simple, it still retains its beauty. The patterns consist of various patterns such as chrysanthemums, irises, plum blossoms, momiji leaves, pines and streams.

The last one is almost as simple as the one above but it has additional patterns such as houses and gates. The traditional patterns include chrysanthemums, momiji leaves, bamboo leaves, and pines. The unique patterns here the ones that look like clouds but in purple.

These fabrics are considered vintage and can be used for doll-making, wallet making, tsumami zaiku (fabric flowers), collage and other crafting and sewing projects.

Iris Flower Stick Pins Ayame Kanzashi Inspired

If I go by the seasonal tsumami kanzashi, iris flower or ayame in Japanese should be the flower of May. And now it's August. But I don't follow this principle, so why not enjoying iris flower or any other kanzashi flowers even though they're not in season, right :)

I've been very much into making a variety of petals out of two basic petals: round and pointed by making several folds. The three large petals of this rendition of iris are made of pointed petals. Instead of creating just one fold, I made 3 extra folds. For the other small petals, I just used regular pointed and round petals.

I've made three different irises. One is blue, another is pink and the other is gold tone. These iris flower stick pins can be worn by ladies as scarf pins or hat pins and they can be worn by men as wedding boutonnieres or lapel pins.

Hydrangea Kanzashi Flower Inspired Scarf Pin Boutonnieres

One of the most loved flowers in summer should be the hydrangeas. A group of tiny flowers makes an adorable half globe shape with a variety of colors such as white - green, pinks, violets, blues.

These floral shrubs have their own unique beauty that has inspired the kanzashi and tsumami zaiku artists and crafters including me. I have included hydrangea inspired tsumami zaiku for a while, and this year I have made three hydrangea inspired stick pins that can be worn as scarf pin for women and a boutonniere for men. They come in three colors: pink, blue and purple. Mounted on metal stick pins with clutches.

I made these with habutai silk, rice glue paste, white craft glue and swarovski crystals beads and mounted them on stick pins with E6000 glue for strength.

Vintage Kimono Jacket in Pink Shades

Happy New Year!

I hope it's not too late to say it.

It's been a while since my last post where I wrote about some vintage haori or kimono jackets that had just arrived. However, I hadn't really written about each kimono. Well, I am starting today with some of them, the pink ones!

Pink kimono are so lovely. I fell in love with them when I was doing vintage kimono hunting and immediately my eyes were drawn to these pink kimonos. They come in different shades such as rose pink, ombre pink, coral pink, thulian pink and soft terracotta. Three of them are made of silk: terracotta shibori silk haori with tatebiki kanoko (linked dots) motif; soft coral pink rinzu silk kimono jacket with kasumi (mist) and tsuyushiba (dew drops on the grass); and thulian pink with Japanese scenic motif. The other two are made of synthetic fabric or polyester: coral pink haori with tatebiki kanoko shibori motif (but this one is not shibori itself) and momiji motif and ombre pink rose kimono jacket with momiji komon motif.

New Batch Of Vintage Kimono Jackets On My Etsy Shop

A few days ago, a new batch of kimono jackets arrived. Here they are!

I had picked out some of the best ones during my vintage kimono hunting. Six out of seven are made of silk, while one is probably not. The owner couldn't determine whether it's silk or not. But it must be of excellent quality since the expert of kimono couldn't even tell if it's silk or not. I can't wait to list them on Etsy.

Would like to see how these kimono jackets look like? Check out my vintage & supplies shop Jagatara Art Vintage & Supplies on Etsy.
